ghd Straightener Round Up: Which One is Best for You?

ghd have long been the gold standard in hair straighteners, with buyers from all walks of life and with all hair types swearing by a new pair, a recycled or preloved pair, or a pair that they have owned for years.

Whatever your ghd journey, whether you’re a veteran user of the brand or looking for your first ever pair of ghd straighteners, this blog post is all about comparing four of the top models – looking at the pros and cons of each and helping you to decide which is best for you.

ghd Gold

ghd Gold

One of the immediate selling points of the ghd Gold is the way that the rounded barrel of the straighteners means it is the perfect tool for curling and waving the hair, allowing you to avoid that slight kink which comes with flatter straighteners.

Boasting an even temperature across the entire hot plate on both the upper and lower arms, and with a reported heating time of under 25 seconds, the consistency of this set of straighteners is another big tick in the box for the ghd Gold model – though the lack of ionic technology does mean that those who reach for the tool everyday will likely find themselves facing some static after use.

All in all, the ghd Gold is sleek and boasts the ideal temperature for one stroke styling.

ghd IV Original

ghd Original

The closest model on the market to ghd’s very first pair of straighteners – the ghd Original. This model celebrates all that made ghd such a hot selling brand in the first place – with the single temperature and on/off button making it top of the list in terms of user experience, ease, and consistency of styling.

Suitable for all hair types, this newer version of the original model does have a few upgrades, for example its automatic sleep mode after 30 minutes and a smarter user interface, however, it makes no effort to add complex features to the usability which has been proven to work.

ghd Platinum+

A far more complex model compared with the original, the ghd Platinum+ boasts refined technology which enables you to adjust the straighteners to the correct temperature in line with the thickness of your hair and your ideal style. All that with added protection to ensure your hair does not become damaged, thanks to the ceramic plates which make up the heated part of the straighteners.

And that’s not all. The internal monitoring of these straighteners means that the temperature remains really consistent during styling, and the rounded barrel enables a multitude of styling options from smoothing frizzy hair to adding a beachy wave or more formal curl to dull hair.

The only drawback of the Platinum+ model is that the arms of the straighteners don’t open as widely as other models and so they aren’t as good for styling big chunks of hair at once – however the efficiency of styling more than makes up for this minor inconvenience.

ghd Unplugged

The overriding benefit of the ghd Unplugged straighteners is that they are wireless and so offer optimum styling on the go. As well as being wireless, these straighteners are also lightweight and extremely portable – without ever taking away from the effectiveness of the model as a pair of styling straighteners.

The only thing to consider with these straighteners is that the battery power is not overly long lasting if you’re using your straighteners at full power – meaning that for those with very frizzy or thick hair, you may need a charge add-on or a break in the middle of styling in which to charge your straighteners. Despite this, the convenience of these straighteners makes them a worthy investment.
