Men’s Winter Hair Trends

Men's winter hair trends

With another few months of cold winds, chilly mornings, and short days ahead, men can’t just rely on a bobble hat or a fleecy hood to keep them looking stylish during the winter months. Believe it or not, the world of men’s hairdressing is rife with changing and seasonal styles – from the shorter cuts of the summer months to the dapper, stylish, and sometimes ear warming trends fit for a winter party.

Without further ado, here are some of the top winter hair trends for men this year.

Keep it long

With lockdowns over the last two years forcing men away from their favourite men’s hairdressers and into the “safe” hands of friends and family with hairdressing scissors, more men than ever before have adopted longer styles – and when it comes to winter trends, longer hair is indeed up there as one of the most popular.

From keeping ears warm, to complimenting the new more relaxed ‘working from home’ man, this longer style is here to stay – just make sure that if it’s the one for you, you keep on top of your style and don’t get it grow too wild.

Top tip: Slick your hair back for working hours and leave it tousled and interesting when you’re out of office, to make the most of a longer style.

Buzz cut

The buzz cut has always been popular with men, but even more so in the winter when the short back and sides mean that hat hair is a thing of the past. A buzz cut is great for those men with well-defined facial features, who want to celebrate and highlight their facial structure and stick with a haircut which is low maintenance.

A new colour

Believe it or not, one of the biggest trends this winter comes straight off the shelves and is being modelled by the likes of David Beckham and other celebrity favourites. While women tend to take their hair down to darker tones for winter, this season in the men’s section it is all about light and bright shades – with bleach a popular option for showcasing a more stylish and confident you.

Long and short

Think Jack Grealish of England football team fame, with his on-pitch hairband, and floppy parted fringe off the pitch. The combination of a long top and very close cut underlayer makes this a firm favourite with younger men, who are heading into men’s hairdressers armed with pictures of Grealish and looking for his trademark skin fade crop topped with extra length.

Note: This is a style which needs higher levels of maintenance than others.

Slick back

A dapper look which is as much about styling as it is about the cut itself, this winter trend focusses on the sophistication of a slicked back do, giving structure to the hair and really coming into its own with a longer on top cut. There are a variety of different products at your disposal to help solidify this particular style, including waxes, gels, and sprays – feel free to chat to one of our team any time for tips on how to make this work for you.

Caesar haircut

This is one for men who are confident in their facial features and trust their hairdresser to create a clean and very neat straight cut around the face. As is so often the case with men’s cuts, this calls for a shorter back and sides and a longer on top type of cut, which has a dead straight line across the forehead and can be worn sleek for formal occasions or with texture for a more tousled weekend look.

Side part

Side parting hair style

Similarly to the women’s hairdressing trends of 2021, side parts are on their way back in – splitting the nation between those who keep it sideways and those who prefer the centre part. For men, a side parting can update any style and add volume to the hair for a thicker and more contemporary finish. A quiff can be a great addition for a formal occasion or if you want to stand out, or you can keep your side parting a little more lowkey for everyday style.

Whether you like the sound of one of these 2021 winter trends, or want to discuss something completely different, our men’s hairdressing team are here to help bring your favourite styles to life.
