Nail Care Tips

Nail care tips

Here for all your beauty needs, whether it’s part of your everyday look or something a little bit special, at Boilerhouse we believe that beauty isn’t just skin deep – it stretches to your hair, your nails, and everything in between.

Nail care is one of those often overlooked areas of beauty maintenance, which sees clients visit us every day of the week to breathe life into tired and unkept talons. But did you know that with a few changes to your at-home routine, you could present manicured and well kept nails at your next nail treatment, ready for a lick of gloss and some refined shaping?

By the end of this blog post, you will be ready to update your beauty maintenance routine – armed with all the information and tools you need to give your nails a well-deserved pamper.

The importance of nail care

Nail care isn’t just there to make sure your nails are always photo ready – though if you’re a fan of rings and hand jewellery then this may be a particular priority. Nail care is, in fact, as much about the health of your nails as it is about their look, with the following lifestyle habits all perfect for elevating the health of your nails – allowing them to grow longer and stronger.

Because let’s be honest, no one likes a chipped or broken nail – and that’s what will happen if you don’t support the health and strength of your nails!

Nail care tips

Tip #1: Moisturise

Moisturising is the most important part of nail care, restoring much-needed moisture to ensure a smooth, soft, and aesthetically pleasing surface. Just as the rest of your body requires a moisturiser, so too do your nails.

Tip #2: Don’t peel off gels – visit your local salon instead

Here at Boilerhouse we don’t just apply gel nails for a long-lasting look – we remove them too. Of course, it can be difficult to justify the price of gel removal when you can simply peel them off, however at-home peeling is extremely bad for the long term health of your nails. And here’s why.

Visiting your beauty salon for a gel removal session ensures your nails are protected throughout the removal – plus, since you’re already there, you might as well coincide the removal with a brand new application and colour.

Tip #3: Stop cutting your cuticles

There’s a difference between having a professional manicurist or beauty therapist trim your cuticles and taking a small pair of nail scissors to them yourself. But the fact is, your cuticles act as a natural seal around the base of your nail and are important for protecting the nail bed from infection, pain, and redness. If your cuticles are overgrown or need some TLC, rub a cuticle oil into the base of your nail and gently push the cuticles back – or visit a salon for a manicure.

Tip #4: Be gentle with your nails, especially when they’re wet

Did you know that excessive contact with water can weaken your nails and can make them easier to damage? There’s a reason why manicurists don’t leave your fingers soaking in water at the start of or during an appointment, and it’s because water weakens the nail and leaves is susceptible to heightened damage.

It’s important to be gentle with your nails and nail beds at all times, but especially after a bath of washing up session.

Tip #5: Be patient

Nail growth takes time – time that will be hampered if you keep biting them whenever you get frustrated. Keep your nails short by trimming them regularly and be patient – following our healthy nail tips will enable your nails to grow strong and long, but this takes time.

So, why not treat yourself to a professional manicure – where your therapist will be able to make personalised recommendations based on the quality of your nails, while also giving them a new lease of life in the form of a reshaping and pop of colour?

Visit our Boilerhouse salon or head online to book your appointment, and transform your look from head to toe with the help of our friendly and professional team.
